It all began in 1981, when our founder, Pauline Nash, started a curtain and soft furnishing business from the comfort of her very own home. The business quickly garnered a reputation for creating beautifully crafted, bespoke soft furnishings and attracted an ever-growing queue of clients.
As the fan-base grew, so did Calico Interiors.

Today, Calico Interiors has its own purpose-built Workroom and works on both commercial and residential projects all across the UK. We also have a Home Store & Design Studio which resides at the rather glorious Lambsquay House, a former hotel in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire - and Pauline has a little more help these days.

The legacy of road haulage is intertwined with the Matthews family—a tradition that began in 1926 when Roger Matthews' grandfather founded the business. Bernard, Roger's father, continued the journey until Roger himself joined in the early seventies.
Starting with livestock wagons and later delivering fertilisers on flatbeds, the business expanded into bulk transport in the late seventies, marked by its distinctive cream and blue livery. Roger Matthews epitomises hard work, dedicating himself to the job's demands, offering reliable and friendly service, with an unwavering determination to reach the centenary milestone in 2026.
Outside of the haulage business, Roger explored various motorsport disciplines. From road rallying a Mini Cooper S in the early '70s through the Herefordshire lanes to competing in stage rallying with Escorts later in the decade, his passion for motorsport grew. Notable victories followed, including the 1983 AWMMC Championship.
In 1984, Roger embraced new challenges, competing in the fiercely competitive Welsh tarmac Championship and later the Castrol M/N series, achieving numerous top 10 finishes. Despite diversifying into Autocross, Rallycross, and even Hot Rods, Roger returned to his rallying roots with MK1 Escorts, securing both the Welsh Historic and British Historic asphalt championships.
Today, Roger participates in occasional events, maintaining his love for motorsport. Renowned for his amiable nature, he is a cherished figure in Herefordshire, always ready to lend a helping hand and greet you with his unmistakable Herefordshire accent, saying, "Alright then."
